As an extraordinary nurse educator, Jana knows the value of thinking creatively — that the best education is both supportive and challenging, and meets people where they are. That’s exactly what she provides in her role as clinical nurse educator for ambulatory care, where she works to help nurses develop new skills and improve patient care.
Jana helps her fellow nurses further their practice in myriad ways: She developed an innovative wound care workshop for APRNs, RNs, LVNs and MAs; she came up with an RN/LVN preceptor program specifically for ambulatory care. That program is so successful that it’s always full. She is a wiz with graphics, coming up with new, highly visual ways to present information. She uses game-based learning programs to keep continuing education surprising and exciting. And she never forgets that nurses need real support to do their jobs: She volunteers with the Care for the Caregiver program, a wellness initiative launched during the Covid-19 pandemic designed to ease potential work environment stress for Keck Medicine health care staff.
Importantly, Jana is a team player and is very thankful for a support system of colleagues and mentors. Jana’s nursing boosterism even extends into her own family: Her son is a registered nurse, and her daughter is currently in nursing school.
