Reflecting on Off the Chart’s First Year and Looking Ahead

It was an exciting inaugural year for Off the Chart: Rewarding Nursing Greatness and we are pleased to share the success of the first year of the campaign!

The Simms/Mann Family Foundation partnered with three Los Angeles-area health systems – City of Hope, Keck Medicine of USC, and UCLA Health – to recognize and reward 10 nurses from each system with a no-strings-attached gift of $10,000. This recognition was in appreciation of the nurses’ leadership, ingenuity and expertise in caring for their fellow humans and future generations.

The Foundation intends for this gift to be individually impactful for the nurse recipients and more broadly transformative; raising the public’s awareness that nurses are the backbone of our nation’s health system and that when there is a shortage of nursing care, we are all less safe. With artificial intelligence gaining influence, we can’t overlook the human touch and the deep wisdom and expertise that nurses offer.

On May 22, 2023 the Foundation hosted more than 130 guests at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills, including the Off the Chart nurse recipients, health system executives, and community leaders.

The evening featured a conversation with Dr. Victoria Mann Simms, Founder and President of the Foundation, about the genesis of Off the Chart, as well as a conversation with journalist and author of Taking Care: The Story of Nursing and Its Power to Change Our World, Sarah DiGregorio.

We were delighted to receive a significant amount of TV and print media coverage for the Off the Chart campaign. Click here to read our press release and please view a selection of media placements included below.

Off the Chart was also supported by a robust social media campaign on Instagram and LinkedIn.

As we reflect on this first year of Off the Chart, we are looking ahead to the future and want to do even more. We plan to add additional health system partners next year, and hope that other philanthropists and foundations will follow the Off the Chart roadmap we have created and invest in nurses and nursing in their own communities and health systems.

We must urgently stem the tide from nurses leaving the profession and the devastating loss of great nursing expertise. We all need to do our part!

Stay tuned for an Off the Chart sizzle reel, coming soon!
