- Improving the treatment and care of people with heart rhythm disorders.
Overview
Cedars-Sinai is a nonprofit academic healthcare organization serving the diverse Los Angeles community. It began in 1902 as a 12-bed hospital in the Angelino Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles. Today, Cedars-Sinai serves more than 1 million people each year in over 40 locations, with more than 4,500 physicians and nurses and 1,500 research projects in motion.
The Foundation is a longtime supporter of Cedars-Sinai, and in 2025 made a grant to endow a chair in Cardiac Electrophysiology. The inaugural chairholder is Michael Shehata, M.D., who is a clinician, educator and researcher specializing in performing ablation procedures and advancing technologies including pulse field catheter ablation.
Desired Impact
Heart rhythm disorders are an increasing challenge to the general United States population. There remains a large, underserved population within the United States in need of adequate treatment and care for such disorders including atrial fibrillation and life-threatening ventricular rhythm disorders.
The Foundation endowed the Chair in Cardiac Electrophysiology to catalyze research, innovation and education in these areas, ultimately leading to improved care for patients with heart rhythm disorders at Cedars-Sinai and beyond.
