Overview

The Milken Center for Advancing the American Dream (“MCAAD”) is a cultural institution dedicated to illuminating pathways to opportunity for all. The ideal at the heart of the American Dream speaks to the aspirations of people everywhere: No matter who you are or where you come from, you should have an equal opportunity to succeed.

The MCAAD focuses on four pillars: Health and Medical Research, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Education and the Educator, and Access to Capital and Financial Empowerment. Through research, convenings, exhibitions and public programs, the MCAAD invites people to explore bold ideas, gain practical insight, and engage in dialogue that can bridge divides and inspire action.

In 2025, the Simms/Mann Family Foundation made a gift to endow and name the “Simms/Mann Family Foundation Entrepreneurial Talent Portal,” a high-tech interactive exhibit located in the Foundations Gallery of the MCAAD’s historic buildings in Washington, DC.

Desired Impact

Each of us has a unique American Dream because we have our own interests, passions, and talents. Developing an entrepreneurial mindset and understanding the talents we each lead with are tools to help us build more fulfilling and successful lives.

Visitors to the Simms/Mann Family Foundation Entrepreneurial Talent Portal at the Milken Center for Advancing the American Dream are invited to reflect on their own habits, likes, and dislikes as a first step to thinking about their talents before selecting the talent grouping that sounds most like them. Visitors then learn more about that talent and either confirm that selection or choose another option. The archway will then illuminate in the corresponding color.

Those who use their strengths and talents every day are:

  • Nearly twice as likely to believe they will achieve the American Dream.
  • More likely to say they have enough money to take care of themselves and their family.
  • More likely to own a business or believe they will in the future.
  • More likely to have obtained a quality education or believe they will in the future.
  • More likely to be in good health or believe they will in the future.

Wherever an individual finds themselves on their personal journey when they experience the Entrepreneurial Talent Portal, understanding their talents can help them discover where to go next and plan how to get there.

I’ve known and worked with many outstanding people who exemplified the American Dream. We wanted to share their stories and thousands of others that provide inspiration and hope for the future.”
